On 10th October, BEE Incorporations’ Managing Director in Cambodia, Dr. Susanne Bodach was invited as a panelist at EuroCHAM’s Green Business Forum 2019 in Phnom Penh. With this year’s slogan of “SUSTAINABLE AND PROFITABLE”, the 2019 Green Business event highlighted the importance of integrating sustainability into all facets of business operations in Cambodia’s fast growing economy, including discussions on green buildings, green energy technologies, and sustainable city development, among others.

Dr. Bodach joined the discussion panel “Building Sustainably in Cambodia” and presented on benefits of Green Building (GB) Rating systems like LEED and EDGE, highlighting how implementing such systems can lead to improvements in operational costs, human health, marketing and brand image, quality of life, and natural resource use and waste reduction. Dr. Bodach brought attention to the negative environmental impacts and heavy strain on local infrastructure that the Cambodian construction boom is having, especially in urban centers. Lack of knowledge and awareness of sustainable building and GB Rating systems, not necessarily monetary constraints, is the prime reason for the scarcity sustainable construction in Cambodia. In Cambodia there now exists the knowledge of building high-rises and complex building projects – the next step is to make them healthier and more environmentally friendly to ensure a better future. The opening of BEE’s regional office in Phnom Penh Cambodia is well-timed to support the developing Cambodian construction sector and to aid it in becoming more sustainable and while staying profitable.
