Mongolia’s first LEED Gold certified electric vehicle charging station is now operating in Ulaanbaatar, anchoring a planned network of 111 off-grid renewable EV stations across the country.
The NEXUS EV Station project, led by MMS LLC and MMS Engineering LLC under Mongolia’s “Let’s Liberate” national initiative, is designed to decarbonize transport along economic corridors, mining zones, tourism routes and border crossings. BEE Incorporations provided green building and LEED consultancy for the flagship station.
The first station, Nexus EV Station – Tasgan, sits on a 6,650 m² site in Chingeltei district and runs on a standalone renewable energy system: 410 kW of solar panels, a 300 kW inverter and 430 kWh of battery storage. Four ultra-fast charging points deliver a combined 720 kW of charging capacity. The station also includes a 24/7 convenience store, restrooms, vending machines, a pharmacy and a driver rest area.
The project team estimates the Tasgan station will generate roughly 635,500 kWh of clean electricity annually, saving about 159,300 liters of fuel and producing an environmental benefit equivalent to planting 7,200 trees.
Of the 111 planned locations, 83 are earmarked for rural and provincial areas and 28 for the Ulaanbaatar region. The rollout aims to cut dependence on the central grid while adding clean generation in parts of the country where EV infrastructure has been absent.
